  • When someone buys a gift card, an email to claim the card is sent to the purchaser only. They have to either email it to the recipient or claim it and print the gift card code and hand to them.

    To claim the gift card, click the link in the email. A new web page opens with a gift card code that looks like this sample code below. Copy and paste the code exactly as written (with dashes):


    We sell gift cards in the following values: $120, $66, and $12 allowing you to get a 12, 6, or 1 month subscription, respectively.

    To use $120 and $66 gift cards:

    Go to our homepage > click “subscribe” > choose the appropriate length subscription (12 or 6 month) > enter the gift card code in the “Coupon or Gift Code” field and click the “apply” button. The checkout balance should be $0. Enter all the requested information and click checkout.

    To use $12 gift cards:

    Important note: you can only use 1 gift card per transaction. To use a $12 gift card, follow the instructions above to sign up for a month-to-month subscription. Only enter one $12 gift card number in the “coupon or gift code” box, then select checkout.

    If you received multiple $12 gift cards (for example, three $12 gift cards), use the additional gift cards as follows: After the initial checkout process is complete (using your first $12 gift card) you then can add a 2nd gift card to your account: log into your account from our homepage (click “log in” from the top menu) > click the “Redeem Gift Card” button > enter the 2nd gift card code in the “redeem code” field > click “Apply Code”.  There will now be a balance on your account of $12.

    If you have 3 or more gift cards, then you will have to wait until after the subscription renews (using the $12 balance on the account) before repeating the steps above to enter another gift card each month.

    Unfortunately, the ecommerce software we use from Cratejoy has a known feature that prevents it from carrying a gift card balance larger than the monthly renewal payment (in our case $12). We have alerted them to the issue but it is unknown when they will update.

  • No, this is a one-time product that we’ve launched. There is no renewal and this box ships separately from our spice subscription.

  • Existing subscribers: simply log into your account. You will see a link “Spice Store” at the top of the page on the menu bar. Shop and purchase.

    Those who received a gift subscription: please email us your reorder request to [email protected] for details.

  • We send you 3 or 4 different spice blends in each shipment and they are packaged in FDA-approved, food-grade pouches.

    The pouches contain enough spice blend to make its corresponding recipe. Often, we provide a extra spice in the packet beyond what the recipe calls for. But we cannot guarantee that there will be extra. So, at a minimum, each pouch is a single-use for a 4 portion meal but DO measure it out to cook the recipe so that you do not over-spice your dish.

  • We have a number of premium spice vendors / suppliers located in the SF Bay Area as well as outside of California. We buy only enough spice to make our product each month.

    Where possible, we purchase whole spice seeds and pods then toast (if appropriate) and custom grind our spices to blend according to our recipes. By sourcing new herbs and spices each month and making small batches, we maximize the freshness and flavor of our spices.

    Freshly-ground spices are enormously more flavorful than those you buy in store jars. Bottled spices you buy in the store may sit on shelves in warehouses and supermarkets for up to 2 years before you eat them. And of course we are all guilty of storing spices in our own cabinets for years, which all adds up to bland-tasting food.

  • When you purchase a gift subscription, you are asked to enter a gift message and the recipient’s shipping address and email address. We print a small gift card insert notifying the recipient what the subscription is, the length of subscription, and who sent the gift.

    You are also asked to enter an email address for the account (this is your email address as the gift buyer). If you want the order to be a surprise, please enter your email on the account.

    As long as you enter the gift recipient’s email address only in the designated form for the gift recipient’s info, we will not email the gift recipient before the first package ships, so it will be a surprise to them until they open it 🙂

  • Your card is charged up front for the length of your subscription at the time of purchase. We currently offer 3 plans: month-to-month (1 month), 6 months, and 12 months. We give you a discount for prepaying longer subscriptions.

    For example, if you order 1 month, you will pay for the upcoming month, and then be billed each month thereafter before we ship on a month-to-month basis. Renewals are billed on the last day of each month.

    If you order 12 months, you will pay for all 12 months up front, but at a lower monthly rate. You will not be billed again for renewal for 12 months.

    For month-month subscribers, you can pause shipments by skipping your next renewal in your dashboard (effectively pausing for 1 month). If you are a prepaid customer and need to skip a shipment, please email us [email protected]

    Renewal notice emails are always sent before your card is charged.

  • Shipping schedule:

    We ship on the 15th of each month via USPS. If you order prior to the 14th of the month, you can expect to receive your order generally 3-4 days after we ship, or approximately the 20th or 21st of the month your order was placed. Our cutoff date to order the current month’s box is normally the 21st of each month (unless we sell out, when we post a sold out notice). Orders placed after the cutoff may ship the with the following month’s batch. On the subscription term selection page, we have a note about which box you will receive before ordering.

    We’ll send you an email notice as soon as your shipment goes out. International addresses will ship with a USPS tracking number so you can track progress across borders. Please note: subscribers in Alaska, Hawaii, or other countries will experience longer shipping times.

    Last minute gifts: 

    Now we have an option for last minute holiday / gift shoppers… order a gift card and send or hand to your loved one so that they can order a subscription on their schedule.

  • Absolutely! You can change the shipping address at any time, as many times as you need to.

    The only thing to be aware of is our monthly shipping date ~15th each month. You’ll want to change the shipping address no later than the 12th of the month to ensure we print the shipping labels with the new address.

    Simply log in to your account > add a new address > click “edit” under your subscription >  switch the subscription to your new address > click “change”.

  • Yes, we can adjust the start month. We always ship orders ~15th each month so if you want an order to start at a later date, simply email us your request after you place your order: [email protected]

    For example, if you order Dec 1st, 2018 the order will ship ~Dec 15th. However, if you want us to start the subscription in January, email us your request and the name of the buyer (or the recipient) so we can locate the order. We’ll confirm via email that we’ve moved your shipment dates. In this example, the first box would ship on Jan 15th.

  • If you are in the US, shipping is FREE!

    We’ve recently found a way to offer lower international shipping rates!!

    To Canada, shipping is $7 $5.99.  To the rest of the world, shipping is $11  $7.99. (per shipment)

  • Yes, you can. If you purchased directly from our website, click the “Log In” button at the top of the screen (or in the mobile menu if on a phone/tablet). Then click “Edit” under “Your Subscription(s)” and then you can cancel or otherwise manage your subscription.

    Cancelling a subscription will not cancel shipments if you still have remaining balance on your subscription for months that have not yet shipped (e.g., you’re 3 months into a 6 month plan). Cancelling a subscription only stops future renewals. Please email us before the 14th of the month to stop shipments and request a prorated refund: [email protected] 

    Refunds are processed back to the payment card and take about 3-5 business days to post. A confirmation email is sent after the refund.

    **If you purchased a subscription through our e-commerce partner site you should go to their website to log in and manage your subscription. Click “sign in” at top of their screen, then “subscriptions” (if you don’t see it, click your name at the top menu). You will see a list of subscriptions made through our e-commerce partner Cratejoy and you can manage them here.

  • Because we ship a food product (spices), we cannot accept returns and cannot refund any packages that already shipped.

    However, you can cancel your subscription anytime. Any prepaid portion remaining for unshipped months can be refunded to the card used to purchase. You must request a prorated refund by emailing us at [email protected] before the 14th of the current month. Refunds are processed back to the payment card and take about 3-5 business days to post.

    To cancel, log in to your account on Click “sign in” at top of screen, then “subscriptions” (if you don’t see it, click your name at the top menu). You will see a list of subscriptions made through our ecommerce partner Cratejoy and you can manage them here.

  • There are no contracts, commitments, or fine print – you can cancel your subscription at any time!

    Please be aware that cancelling your subscription only stops future renewal payments. If you have a balance on your account (ie, you cancel just after a renewal takes place), you must email us to request a prorated refund at [email protected] before the 14th of the current month. Refunds are processed back to the payment card and take about 3-5 business days to post.

    The only stipulation is that we cannot refund any month’s packages once shipped. Any prepaid portion remaining for unshipped months will be refunded to the credit card used to purchase once you request a prorated refund by emailing us at [email protected]

  • Piquant is pronounced: “PEEK” (as in peekaboo) + “ant” like the bug. Piquant is a fancy dictionary word that means:

    pleasantly spicy or appetizing flavor

    and has a secondary meaning:

    pleasantly stimulating or exciting to the mind

    We like to think both definitions apply to us 🙂

  • Each month you receive a box containing 3 or 4 unique spice blends and new recipes to use them.

    Each recipe is designed to serve 4+ people (or 4 portions if you meal plan for leftovers). So, you’ll be able to cook a total of at least 16 portions (4 different meals & 4 servings per meal) per month with each shipment from us.
