We’re also committed to a high standard in protecting your privacy and to providing transparency in our privacy policy. Given recent news around the world regarding technology businesses and privacy, we understand that privacy is a top concern of yours, as it is for our employees individually, and our company generally. The next few paragraphs provides a summary, in plain English, of how we gather, use, and protect your data as well as our commitment to you.

By visiting Piquant Post’s website, you are accepting the terms of our Privacy Policy. Any links to external websites (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, etc.) are clearly identifiable as such, and we are not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of these other websites.

Information Collected or Received

Piquant Post will not disclose your name, email address or other personal information to third parties without your explicit consent, except as specified in this policy.

As a Piquant Post customer, you are required to provide a valid email address at the time of purchase in order to create an account, so you can manage your information and purchases. Piquant Post will also require additional information such as shipping address and billing and payment information (including billing address and credit card information) to complete a purchase. We use two payment processors who store your credit card numbers on their servers using bank-level encryption: Stripe and PayPal. Our ecommerce provider Cratejoy also encrypts your credit card information when you enter it into the shopping card using SSL technology (secure socket layer), a standard practice for ecommerce software providers. We do not store your credit card information on our servers but use our providers to bill and process payments.

From time to time, our employees may contact you via email to inquire about product shipping, your satisfaction with our product, to answer your questions, and other inquiries at our discretion. During our interactions and surveys, we may collect your preferences and will only use that information internally to improve our product and customer service. Alternatively, you may reach out to our customer service reps via email or through our website. We will not post or otherwise display our communications with you publicly unless we receive your permission. For example, you may send us feedback on a monthly shipment and we may reach out to get your permission to post some of your comments along with your first name as a testimonial on our website, newsletter, or social media.

You may optionally choose to leave a review or comment on our website. Doing so makes your name (or alias depending on how you login to our comment and review system) and comments public, until you delete them or request that we do so.

Piquant Post automatically receives and records some information from your browser or your mobile device when you visit our site, such as your IP address or unique device identifier, cookies and data about which pages you visit on the Site. We use this information to analyze how users visit the site, to provide a more personalized experience for visitors, and to do targeted marketing. Piquant Post may receive or collect information (for example: an email address or a social media alias) about a person who is not yet registered with an account (“visitor”) in connection with certain Piquant Post features, including but not limited to: a visitor subscribing to our newsletter, a customer tagging a visitor in a social media post encouraging them to visit our site, or a customer sending a gift subscription or gift card code to a visitor. Visitor information is used only for the purpose it was originally submitted to Piquant Post. A visitor can contact Piquant Post Support if they do not want us to retain their information.

Piquant Post uses the information described in this policy to provide and improve our services and products, for billing and payments, for identification and authentication, for targeted online marketing, to contact members or interested parties, and for general research and aggregate reporting.

You Have a Choice & Control

Each of our employees values having control over their own information, and therefore it is our policy to offer you the choice of providing, editing, or removing certain information, as well as choice over how we contact you. You may change or correct your Piquant Post account information on our site by logging into your account.

For various reasons, Piquant Post may contact you about our services or your activity. Some of these messages are required, service-related messages for members. Other messages are not required, and you can opt-out of receiving optional messages by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails.

If you no longer wish to use Piquant Post’s services or receive service-related messages, then you may close your account by contacting us via email or written message and requesting that your account and all data be deleted.

Messages from Piquant Post

From time to time, Piquant Post will contact you. Primarily, messages are delivered by email, and every account is required to keep a valid email address on file to receive messages. In some rare situations, Piquant Post may contact you by telephone or physical mail in order to provide you with customer support or to provide you with information about products and features that you requested. You may unsubscribe from emails by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email you receive from us or on our behalf. You may also request that we not contact you on one or any specific channels by writing us at [email protected] or our physical address.

Some messages from Piquant Post are service-related and required for members. Examples of service-related messages include but are not limited to: a welcome/confirmation email when you register your account, notification of an order, notification of shipment of an order, or correspondence with our support team. These messages are not promotional in nature. You may not opt-out of receiving service-related messages from Piquant Post, unless you close your account.
Piquant Post offers optional email newsletters, which may contain messages on product or service features, sales and promotions, and other relevant information. When you register for an account, make a purchase, or choose to subscribe as a visitor, you will receive newsletters from us. Newsletters are available to both customers and visitors. Anyone may subscribe or unsubscribe from optional newsletters by following the instructions contained in the newsletter emails.

Public Community

Piquant Post is a both a store and a community. We offer a couple of features that allow customer and visitors to connect and communicate in public or semi-public spaces, such as Forums, social media pages, and recipe reviews. Please use common sense and good judgment when posting in these community spaces or sharing your personal information with others on Piquant Post. Be aware that any personal information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by others, or could be used to send you unsolicited messages. Piquant Post generally does not remove content from community spaces, and your posts may remain public after your account is closed. You are responsible for the personal information you choose to post in community spaces on Piquant Post or social media forums.

Information Sharing & Disclosure

We want to respect your privacy. Piquant Post will not disclose your name, email address or other personal information to third parties without your explicit consent, except as specified in this policy. Piquant Post limits access to your personal information to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.

Piquant Post may release your personal information to a third-party in order to protect, establish, or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; comply with a subpoena, court order, legal process, or other legal requirement; or when we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, prevent imminent physical harm or financial loss, or investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, threats to our property, or violations of Piquant Post’s Terms of Use. We may disclose personally identifiable information to parties as we in our sole discretion believe necessary or appropriate in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, piracy, or other unlawful activity. In such events, Piquant Post may disclose a name, address, country, billing address, email address, and any email communications between us and the relevant parties to investigating authorities.
Piquant Post is affiliated with a variety of businesses and may offer promotions or sell items or services to you through Piquant Post’s services. Piquant Post may also provide services or sell products jointly with affiliated businesses. Due to the nature of our business model, when an affiliated business is associated with your transaction, we may share information that is related to such transaction with that affiliated business. Piquant Post may share aggregated demographic information with business partners.

In some cases, Piquant Post may choose to buy or sell assets. In these types of transactions (such as a sale, merger, liquidation, receivership or transfer of all or substantially all of Piquant Post’s assets), member information is typically one of the business assets that is transferred. In the event that Piquant Post transfers information about you, Piquant Post will notify you by email or by putting a prominent notice on the Site and the App, and you will be afforded an opportunity to opt-out before information about you becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Third-party plug-ins also may collect information about your use of the Site. For example, when you a load a page on Piquant Post that has a social plug-in from a third-party site or service, such as a Like or Send button, you are also loading content from that third-party site. That site may request cookies directly from your browser. These interactions are subject to the privacy policy of the third-party site. In addition, certain cookies and other tracking mechanisms such as pixels on our site are used by third parties for targeted online marketing and other purposes. These technologies allow a partner to recognize your computer or mobile device each time you visit Piquant Post, but do not allow access to personally identifiable information from Piquant Post. Piquant Post does not have access or control over these third-party technologies, and they are not covered by our privacy policy. If you prefer to prevent third parties from setting and accessing cookies on your computer, you may set your browser to block cookies. And you may opt out of the use of cookies by Google Analytics here. Additionally, you may remove yourself from the targeted advertising of companies participating in the Digital Advertising Alliance program by opting out here. Although our website currently does not respond to “do not track” browser headers, you can limit tracking by taking these steps.

Piquant Post’s policy covers only our employees, actions, and assets and does not apply to the practices of third parties that Piquant Post does not own or control, or individuals that Piquant does not employ or manage. If you provide your information to others throughout the Internet, different rules may apply to the use or disclosure of the information you provide to them. Piquant Post does not control the privacy policies of third parties, and you are subject to the privacy policies of those third parties where applicable. Piquant Post is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of other websites on the Internet, even those linked to or from the Piquant Post site. We encourage you to ask questions before you disclose your personal information to others.

Security

We take the security of your data seriously. Your Piquant Post account information is protected by password and stored on our 3rd party ecommerce software provider, Cratejoy. According to Cratejoy’s privacy policy, Cratejoy encrypts sensitive information (such as credit card number) using secure socket layer technology (SSL). Cratejoy follows generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once Cratejoy receives it. Our payment processors are leading companies in the ecommerce industry (PayPal and Stripe) and you can read their privacy policies here and here. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

It is important that you protect against unauthorized access of your account and information by choosing your password carefully and keeping your password and computer secure by signing out after using our services.

Data Retention

Piquant Post will retain your information only for as long as is necessary or your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you no longer want Piquant Post to use your information to provide you services, you may close your account. Piquant Post will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may inform us of any changes or requests in regards to your personal data, and in accordance with our obligations under local data protection law, we may update or delete your personal data accordingly.

Privacy Policy Changes

Piquant Post reserves the right to modify this privacy policy at any time and we post the date of publication near the top. Please review it periodically. We’ll communicate changes by posting a notice on the site. If we make material changes to this policy, prior to the change becoming effective, you will be notified here, by email, or other places Piquant Post deems appropriate.
