The Argentine Vegan Proveleta Burger is a culinary dance honoring the classic "Provoleta" appetizer—a marriage of Italian and Argentine cuisine. Traditionally, provoleta's molten provolone cheese, spiced and seared, set the stage for a traditional Argentine BBQ called an “asado”. Our chefs take inspiration to create plant-based burger topped with a beautiful chimichurri sauce. Plant-based patties are seasoned with our unique Argentine Pampas blend—smoky, herbal, and savory. Ideal for elevating meats or enriching roasted veggies and other favorite recipes. Ingredients

  • Chimichurri Sauce:

  • 2 cups parsley

  • 1 shallot

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cup olive oil 

  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

  • 1 jalapeno, seeded

  • Pinch black pepper

  • For the Provoleto Burger:

  • 4 vegan burger patties (like Impossible patties)

  • 1 tsp Piquant Post Argentine Pampas

  • Salt and pepper to taste 

  • 4 slices vegan Provolone cheese

  • 4 vegan burger buns

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

  • 1 cup red onion, julienned

  • Burger garnish: lettuce, pickles

Notes

You can use store-bought vegan burger patties, or make your own with ingredients like black beans, chickpeas, mushrooms, quinoa, or sweet potatoes. Experiment with different combinations to achieve the texture and flavor you desire.

Look for vegan provolone-style cheese slices at your local store. Alternatively, you can make your own vegan cheese using ingredients like cashews, nutritional yeast, and plant-based milk. Melted vegan mozzarella or cheddar can also work well for a different flavor profile.

You can grill the veggie burger patties for that classic barbecue flavor, or pan-fry them for a quick and easy option. Both methods will yield a delicious burger.

Achieve grill marks on your burger patties by using a grill pan or a real grill, which can add a smoky flavor to your burger.

Experiment with different toppings and fillings. Try adding avocado, sliced tomatoes, red onions, roasted bell peppers, or sautéed mushrooms to create a customized burger experience.

Instructions

To make the chimichurri sauce, place all the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until a chunky sauce is formed.

Season the burger patty meat with Piquant Post Argentine Pampas, salt and pepper in a medium bowl until well combined. Re-form the patties and place in a hot pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side. After flipping the burgers to the second side, place a slice of vegan Provolone cheese on each patty.  Allow the cheese to melt and remove from the pan.  In the same pan, heat the olive oil and add the julienned red onions to the pan. Cook until browned and soft.

While the patties are cooking, toast the buns either in a toasted or in another pan. 

To serve the burgers, place the cooked patty on the bun and top with chimichurri, grilled red onion, and shredded lettuce. Add any other toppings you desire, like vegan mayo, ketchup or pickles!

Alternatives & Substitutions

  • Besides traditional veggie burgers, consider using alternative protein sources like seitan, tempeh, tofu, or a blend of beans and grains such as quinoa and lentils. These provide various textures and flavors for your burger.
