You may need: Aloha BBQ
Hawaiian cuisine, with its multifaceted blend of indigenous Hawaiian, Portuguese, Asian, and American influences, is a culinary adventure like no other. It's a vibrant tapestry of flavors, where fresh seafood, taro, and tropical fruits meet the bold seasonings of Asia and Polynesia. Inspired by this rich heritage, we present our tantalizing Hawaiian BBQ Tempeh Wraps—a nod to the region’s beloved BBQ tradition. Hawaiian BBQ culture is deeply rooted in the ancient Polynesian technique of kalua, where meat is slow-cooked underground in an imu, Hawaiian BBQ embodies a distinctive smoky essence infused by smoldering wood. Our culinary team took on the challenge of crafting a vegan-friendly Hawaiian BBQ-inspired recipe using tempeh as the protein. Marinated in our signature Aloha BBQ spice blend, the tempeh is seasoned to express the essence of Huli Huli marinade: a harmonious blend of sweetness, savoriness, and smoky undertones with a hint of heat. Searing the tempeh to golden perfection achieves a satisfyingly crunchy golden exterior while preserving its tender, flavorful core.
No Hawaiian feast is complete without a refreshing side, so we've paired our wraps with a crisp cabbage slaw for a delightful crunch and vibrant contrast. For an extra touch of island flavor, feel free to add grilled pineapple—a sweet symphony that transports you straight to the sunny shores of Hawaii. With our Hawaiian BBQ Tempeh Wraps, experience the essence of Aloha in every mouthwatering bite.
For the tempeh:
2 blocks tempeh, cubed
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp agave
1 Tbsp Piquant Post Aloha BBQ
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil for cooking
For the coleslaw:
2 cups finely shredded cabbage
2 Tbsp vegan mayo
1 tsp Piquant Post Aloha BBQ
Pinch salt
1 Tbsp chopped cilantro
1/2 Tbsp vinegar
1/2 Tbsp agave
For the wraps:
4 10” flour tortillas
Add a variety of fresh vegetables for crunch and nutrition. Some options include shredded cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and cucumber. You can also add sliced avocado for creaminess.
Grill slices of fresh pineapple to add a sweet and tangy flavor to the wrap. Grilling the pineapple enhances its natural sweetness and adds a delicious charred flavor.
Toss the cubed tempeh with the olive oil, agave, Aloha BBQ, salt and pepper. Heat some vegetable oil in a pan and add the marinated tempeh. Cos for 5-7 minutes over medium heat until the tempeh is crispy and golden.
Toss the coleslaw ingredients together and allow to marinate.
Heat the tortillas in a large dry skillet until they are pliable. Fill with tempeh and coleslaw and roll up like a burrito that’s open on one end.
Serve the wraps with salad or chips! These are great to make ahead and have the next day!
Use large whole grain or gluten-free wraps to hold the ingredients together. Warm the wraps slightly before assembling the wrap to make them more pliable.
Serve the wrap immediately for the best taste and texture. You can also pack it for a lunch on the go or a picnic.
