You may need: Urfa Biber
You are about to have an “out of brownie” experience with our addition of a special Turkish chili pepper called Urfa Biber to a classic brownie recipe. Urfa Biber is a variety of dried chili commonly used in Turkey with a gorgeous, deep burgundy color and a complex flavor profile. These chilis are harvested and dried in the sun by day and covered to sweat at night, preserving their natural essential oils. Urfa Biber chilis convey subtle notes of chocolate, raisins, wine, salt, and tobacco along with a very mild heat. We send you authentic Urfa Biber that are gorgeous, fresh, and the perfect addition to these decadent Urfa Biber brownies.
Chilis have become more popular in all types of foods as our palates have become more adventurous. Think of chili flavor as levels of heat that also bring depth of flavor. It’s not as simple as making a dish “hot”; chilis have nuanced flavor profiles that can elevate a dish. Urfa Biber will add a mild heat that plays well with the sweet notes of chocolate, but it also offers a subtle smokiness although the chilis are not smoked. Try Urfa Biber in savory and sweet dishes and with grilled meats.
10 Tbsp salted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup melted chocolate chips
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp Piquant Post Urfa Biber chili flakes
1 cup chocolate chips
You can use a metal or glass pan. We like to use a metal pan because it yields crispier edges.
Use dark or milk chocolate chips, depending on your preference!
To melt the chocolate chips, you can use a double broiler, or simply melt in the microwave.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8x8 pan with parchment paper.
Pour melted butter into a large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar until smooth. Add in eggs and vanilla extract. Stir to combine. Stir in melted chocolate until combined and smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt and Piquant Post Urfa Biber. Add to the large bowl with the butter and sugar mixture. Stir in whole chocolate chips.
Pour into 8x8 pan and bake for 30 minutes.
If you like some crunch to your brownies, add ½ cup of walnuts.
