Discover The Recipe

In the lush, volcanic cradle of Hawaii, culinary traditions run as deep as the island's roots. From the ancient Polynesians who navigated the vast Pacific to the modern-day fusion of global influences, Hawaiian cuisine is a tapestry woven with diverse flavors and cultural heritage. Taro, coconuts, and breadfruit laid the groundwork for the native diet, while waves of immigration introduced new ingredients and techniques, shaping the Hawiian fusion style we savor today.

Folks, it’s time to cook our vibrant rendition of Hawaiian Beef Skewers—a celebration of bold flavors and charred perfection. Each bite harmoniously balances sweet and savory, with tender meat kissed by the grill and accented by caramelized pineapples. At the heart of this culinary delight lies our Aloha BBQ spice blend—an homage to the island's warmth and hospitality. Its savory, smoky, and subtly zesty profile transforms the marinade into a glossy, irresistible glaze that beckons with every sizzle.

Feel free to customize your skewers with an array of colorful vegetables, adding your own creative touch to this Hawaiian classic. Whether served alongside creamy macaroni salad or atop a bed of fragrant white rice, these skewers embody the spirit of aloha—a warm embrace that invites you to taste the essence of Hawaii with every savory bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Tri-Tip Steak, boneless and cut into 1-inch cubes

  • ¼ cup soy sauce, low sodium

  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 1 Tbsp Piquant Post Aloha BBQ

  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar or white wine vinegar

  • 1 tsp sesame oil or vegetable oil

  • 1 small pineapple, cut into 1-inch cubes or 1 (14oz) can of pineapple chunks

  • 2 red bell peppers, cut into 1-inch chunks

  • 1 large sweet onion, cut into 1-inch chunks

  • 1 Tbsp ketchup

  • 8-10 wooden skewers, soaked beforehand

  • For garnish: sesame seeds and chopped green onions

  • To serve: macaroni salad or white rice

Notes

Be sure to soak the wooden skewers at least 30 minutes before cooking to prevent them from burning.

Let the skewers rest for 5 minutes before serving so that the juices can redistribute for moist and tender beef.

Instructions

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, Piquant Post Aloha BBQ, rice vinegar and sesame oil. Pour a ⅓ cup of the sauce in a separate bowl and set aside in the refrigerator to baste later. Add the steak cubes to a Ziploc bag and pour in the remaining sauce. Let the steak marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Bring the steak to room temperature while you cut the pineapple, bell pepper and onion into 1-inch cubes. Assemble the skewers by alternating between steak, bell pepper, pineapple and onion until the skewers are filled half of the way. Set aside on a plate..

Preheat a grill or cast iron skillet over Med heat and spray with cooking oil. Take the reserved marinade from the refrigerator and whisk in 1 Tbsp ketchup.

Place the skewers on the grill in an even layer and cook for 2-3 mins on each side. During the last few turns, baste the skewers with the sauce. The skewers should be charred and the meat should be tender with an internal temperature of 145-150 degrees for a medium cook. Remove from the grill, garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion and serve.
