You may need: Bali BBQ
A serene, tropical setting lush with forested volcanoes and gorgeous beaches, Bali is an island paradise with an exotic fusion of Hindu and Southeast Asian cultures and cuisines, marking its central location and importance in global trade routes. For 1000 years, the islands of Eastern and Central Indonesia were a major supply base for the global spice trade, especially of native cloves, mace, and nutmeg that grow wild on the the fabled Moluccas (the 'Spice Islands'). This delicious Balinese Pork recipe uses one of our proprietary spice blends.
Inspired by the native crops and flavors traded through the region, we created this Bali BBQ spice blend to transport us back to Bali where a warm breeze carries beautiful aromas of the local cuisine. Starting with a medium roast arabica coffee bean, a major crop in Bali, for a nutty but delicate coffee taste, this rub imparts hints of clove, nutmeg, and ginger. Delicious on pork chops or ribs, also try this spice on steaks or poultry, cooked in the BBQ or oven.
3-4 thick cut boneless pork chops
2 tbsp Piquant Post Bali BBQ Spice
1 tbsp canola (or vegetable oil)
1.5 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
salt & pepper to taste (optional)
Buy thick cut boneless pork chops for this recipe and slice into thin strips to serve after cooking.
You can use thinner pork chops, but we find they dry out quickly. So, take extra care to reduce cooking time if using thin chops.
Blending the soup will produce a smooth texture but it's optional. If you do blend, work in batches to prevent spillage and for safety reasons.
Make sure you use an oven safe skillet for this recipe. Many non-stick pans are not oven-safe, so double-check.
Lastly, optional ingredients add a little character and flavor but don’t sweat it if you don’t have them.
Preheat oven to 375 deg. Heat a large oven-safe skillet or pan on Med-High and add oil to pan.
In a bowl, mix brown sugar and Bali BBQ spice. Season pork chops with salt and pepper then rub a generous amount of Bali BBQ spice + sugar mixture on both sides of the pork chops.
When oil is shimmering, add pork chops. Sear for 3-4 mins. Flip pork chops and sear other side for 3-4 mins.
Move skillet inside oven and place on a rack. Cook for 10 mins or until internal meat temp reaches 145 deg. Remove skillet and let the pork chops rest for 3 mins before slicing and serving.
Try our Bali BBQ spice blend as a rub on any type of meat you like to BBQ, particularly steaks, pork, or chicken. Do try our Sticky Balinese Wings, our Balinese Sticky Glazed Pork Ribs, Bali-Spiced Strip Steak, and our Balinese Pork.
If you prefer a vegetarian option, try our Balinese BBQ Mushroom Skewers, or our Bali BBQ Fried Tempeh.
