You may need: Peri Peri
Peri Peri is a Portuguese-African fusion spice that has gained tons of fans all around the world because of its garlicky-tangy-spicy flavor. In Southeast Africa, namely Mozambique, Portuguese colonists encountered African chilis and cooking techniques. Over the years, chefs remixed the flavors but nearly every modern rendition is made with garlic, dried chilis, lemon or vinegar and oil. Use our Peri Peri spice as the perfect base to create a flavor-bomb marinade to imbue that lip smacking tangy-smoky-savory profile that is perfect for grilling. You can also use the peri peri spice blend as a dry rub on meats, veggies, or seasoning for rice and stews.
In this recipe for Spicy Fries with Peri Peri Aioli, the crispy, spicy potatoes make the perfect side dish for your next BBQ or summer weeknight meal. These healthy baked fries are loaded with flavor and our chef includes a Peri Peri Aioli, perfect for dipping. This is a quick and easy dish, taking less than 30 minutes to complete. If you desire extra crispy fries, try using an air fryer to cook the potatoes.
2 large russet potatoes
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sea salt
2 tsp Piquant Post Peri Peri (plus, sprinkle more to taste)
Peri Peri Aioli:
1/4 cup vegan mayo
1 tsp Piquant Post Peri Peri
Make sure to slice the potatoes in even sized pieces for the best results.
Cooking times will vary depending on your oven, so make sure to test the fries and let them cook for more time if you like them crispy.
If you have a convection setting on your oven, give it a try as your fries will turn out crispier.
Pre-heat the oven to 400°F. Wash the potatoes well and slice into even, long strips.
Toss the potato strips with the olive oil, sea salt, and Piquant Post Peri Peri, until thoroughly coated.
Spread the potato onto a parchment lined sheet pan. Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and browned.
While the potatoes are cooking, stir the Peri Peri spice into the vegan mayo and place in a small side dish. When the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and serve immediately with the Peri Peri Aioli.
Try make these fries with sweet potatoes, or even other non-starching veggies, like cauliflower or turnips.
