Discover The Recipe

Turkish Vegan Pide is a fun dinner recipe that is loaded with vegetables and tons of flavor. Pide, pronounced “PEE-deh”, is a traditional Turkish flatbread that can be found throughout the bustling streets of Turkey. It has a boat-like shape that acts as a canvas for a variety of fillings. The dough is crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Although it is sometimes called Turkish pizza, it doesn’t include a sauce like traditional pizza in the Western world. However, that’s where the differences end since it’s loaded with flavorful toppings, can be eaten by hand and is loved by almost everyone.

Our chefs use our unique Turkish Herb Blend to level up the flavor of this recipe. This blend is loaded with fragrant Mediterranean spices like mint, dill, oregano, aromatics like garlic and onion, and a hint of aleppo pepper flakes for a mild, fruity heat. These spices embody Turkey’s rich cultural heritage and diverse flavors, and are a great way to recreate Turkish delicacies in the comfort of your own kitchen. Our recipe for a vegan Turkish Pide is filled with plant-forward ingredients like meaty mushrooms, crisp bell peppers, juicy cherry tomatoes and savory vegan cheeses. If you’re in the mood to explore, you can also top your pide with some fresh pesto, hummus or tzatziki sauce to round things out or add any number of meats. Pair this with our Turkish Red Lentil Soup to further explore the beauty of Turkish cuisine.

Ingredients

  • For the Veggie Topping:

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms

  • 1 small red onion, sliced

  • 1 medium red bell pepper, sliced

  • 6 cloves garlic

  • 1 Tbsp Piquant Post Turkish Herb Blend

  • 1/2 cup cherry tomato

  • For the Pide:

  • 4 pide dough balls, allowed to sit at room temperature for 1 hour

  • 1 cup vegan mozzarella

  • Garnish: vegan feta, chopped parsley

Notes

You can make this by using store bought pizza dough or you can make your own!

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 500 F. To make the veggie topping mix, heat the olive oil in a skillet until shimmering and add the mushrooms, onion, pepper and garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onions are browned and the mushrooms are soft. Add the cherry tomato and Piquant Post Turkish Herb blend. Mix blend and remove from the heat.

Place the dough ball on a floured surface and roll out into a long oval. Add the vegan mozzarella to the center of the oval. Add 1/4 of the veggie topping over the mozzarella.

Fold the edges of the dough over the sides of the veggie topping and pinch together the end of the pide into a point, so the whole thing is shaped like a football. Place the pide in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is crisp and golden.

Remove from the oven when done and garnish with vegan feta and parsley.
